RCMC Welcomes Ms. Joy Truly Brown, Director of Booking and Event Operations, Orpheum Theatre

     Joy Truly Brown, is currently, the Director of Booking and Event Operations at the Orpheum Theatre in downtown Memphis, TN. Throughout her 16 years at the Orpheum, she has managed every aspect of event planning, including contractual negotiations, finances and settlements, post-event evaluations, and everything in-between. Most importantly, her position allows her to interact with and assist guests in their planning their events at the Orpheum Theatre, an aspect that translates well to her passion for community involvement. Joy has always had a passion for community service and the events held to raise awareness and funds. Working with the American Heart Association’s Heart and Soul Ball 2013 to 2016, serving on the fundraising planning committee for the Alpha Omega Veterans Service from 2015 to 2017, and more recently being a part of the inaugural Night at the Lorraine event hosted by the National Civil Rights Museum. 

     While being involved with a number of organizations in the Memphis area, Joy’s primary goal is to change the face of non-traditional career paths by teaching future generations to hone their craft and be encouraged to pursue their passions. Working closely with the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International, Leadership Memphis Community 2016 Executive Class Program and through mentoring with the Big Brothers / Big Sisters, Butterfly Effect Girls Mentoring program and the mentoring program at Memphis Academy of Health Science Middle School, Joy continues to inspire young girls and women to work towards their passion. Moreover, Joy served on the boards of Pinky Promise International Corporation, Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau, Hospitality Sales Marketing Association International, and Metro Memphis Attractions Associations. Currently, Joy serves on the Boards of the Memphis Rock and Soul Museum and Memphis Tourism Welcome to Memphis Association. 

     In addition to being a part these organizations several others, Joy is a licensed cosmetologist which has afforded her countless opportunities to utilize her skill set working on Memphis based movie sets like Great Balls of Fire, The Firm, People vs Larry Flint, Nothing but the Truth, Elvis Good Rockin Tonight, Million Dollar Quartet Series and as the Key hairstylists for NSecure. Broadway shows like Lion King, Dream Girls, Memphis the Musical, and Some Like it Hot are just a few other ways Joy has used her passion during her career. Joy has been married for 23 years and mother of 1 daughter-Zoie Michelle.  

     Joy is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc, she believes in and follows the purpose of the Sorority, To Be of Service to All Mankind.
